myki Money
A Zone 1+2 daily fare gives you unlimited travel on our public transport network.
Benefits:
- Only pay when you travel.
- Your fare is automatically calculated based on where you tap on and off.
You need enough money on your myki to pay for your entire journey. Your myki Pass won't work if your myki Money has a negative balance.
You can also request a refund on unused myki Money.
Cheaper fares with myki Money
We offer cheaper fares if you travel at certain times of the day or week.
myki Pass
Benefits:
- Buy consecutive days of travel. You can buy a full, concession or child fare myki Pass.
- Travel as often as you want on those days, within your chosen zones.
- Pay a cheaper fare because you’ve bought in bulk.
You can buy a myki Pass that lasts 7 days, or anywhere between 28 and 365 days. If you buy a myki Pass for 325 to 365 days, you get up to 40 days of free travel.
You can’t buy a myki Pass that lasts between 8 and 27 days.
Calculating myki Pass fares
To work out the cost of a myki Pass:
- Choose between a 7-day myki Pass or a pass for 28 to 365 days.
- Check if you qualify for a concession or free travel pass.
- Note how many regional zones you’re travelling through. Learn how to view the zone for a station or stop.
- Using this information, find your fare on the relevant table in:
Buy a myki Pass
- Make sure your myki does not have a negative myki Money balance (otherwise your Pass will not work).
- Choose which zones you’ll be travelling in.
- Choose how many consecutive days you need.
Useful tips for myki Pass
- Activate your myki Pass when you first tap on (in a zone covered by your pass).
- A myki Pass expires at 3am on the morning after the last day of the pass.
- Buy your next myki Pass before your current one expires. Your myki can store both. It will only activate the second myki Pass once the first one has expired.
- Activate your myki Pass within 12 months from the date of purchase. If you don’t, it will expire. In this case, you might be able to request a refund for an unused myki Pass.
Online top up processing time
If you pay for myki Money or add a myki Pass to your myki, it takes 45 minutes for the payment to reach your myki. You need to tap on or off your myki on a reader for the top up to apply.
You can't travel with your myki unless you've already got enough myki Money, or an existing myki Pass on the card to pay for your fare.

Using both myki Money and myki Pass
Your myki can hold myki Money and myki Pass at the same time.
Your myki will always use a valid myki Pass before it tries to use myki Money. You can also put two myki Passes on the same myki. However, only one pass will be used at any one time.
You may travel outside the zone your myki Pass covers. If that happens, you must pay the fare difference with myki Money.
