VRC Turnball Stakes Race Day

Public transport for VRC Turnball Stakes Race Day – Saturday 3 October 2026

We're running extra trams and trains to get passengers to the Turnball Stakes Day at Flemington Racecourse! Public transport is your best way to enjoy it, with extra services to help you get to and from the Flemington Racecourse.

  • Gates open: 10:55am
  • First race: 12:55pm
  • Last race: 5:40pm 

Please note that Turnbull Stakes Day coincides with the Melbourne Royal Show, so passengers can expect higher than normal crowds on public transport, particularly on train services operating via Showgrounds and route 57 trams to the Showgrounds.

Metropolitan train

Getting to and from Flemington Racecourse

Trains will depart Flinders Street (Platform 9) stopping at Southern Cross (Platform 13 & 14) and North Melbourne (Platform 5 & 6) stations, then running express to Showgrounds (Platform 1) then to Flemington Racecourse (Platform 1) in both directions. 

Passengers travelling to Flemington Racecourse should ensure they board a service that continues beyond Showgrounds to Flemington Racecourse (Platform 1), as some trains will terminate at Showgrounds only. 

Train services from Flinders Street to Flemington Racecourse will operate from 10:40am to 8:10pm every 20 minutes.

Getting to and from Flemington Racecourse

Route 57

  • Trams will operate via Route 57 from Stop 01 Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street and passengers can alight at Stop 32 Sandown Road/ Epsom Road via Flemington Road.

Route 57a – Flemington Shuttles

  • Additional shuttle services will operate from 8:30am to 11:00pm between Stop 01 Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street and Stop 33 Showground via Flemington Road.
  • Every second shuttle will operate between Showgrounds and Royal Children’s Hospital from 6:30pm to 11:00pm. 

Route 57a – West Maribyrnong Shuttles

  • Additional shuttle services will operate from 8:30am to 11:00pm between Stop 01 Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street and Stop 49 Central Park Avenue via Flemington Road.
  • Every second shuttle will operate between Showgrounds and Royal Children’s Hospital from 6:30pm to 11:00pm.

Getting to and from Flemington Racecourse

The following bus route travels close to Flemington Racecourse: 

  • Route 472 (Williamstown to Moonee Ponds via Footscray)

Passengers can catch buses from Footscray Station and alight at Langs Road/Showgrounds.

Getting to Flemington Racecourse

Passengers arriving at North Melbourne and Southern Cross stations are advised to change trains and catch a Showgrounds service.

Passengers are advised to catch any train from Showgrounds and alight at Southern Cross or North Melbourne stations and change to a regional train.
