Melbourne Marathon

Public transport services changes apply during the Melbourne Marathon.

The Melbourne Marathon returns to the MCG precinct, starting on Batman Avenue from 6am. 

Public transport services will be running to and from the start line on Batman Avenue, outside the MCG Precinct on Sunday 12 October 2025.

Passengers, please note there will be service changes for trams and buses from 4am to 2pm due to the road closures for the Melbourne Marathon.

Train

Trains will be running to a Sunday timetable via Richmond, Jolimont and Flinders Stations to assist you in travelling to and from the start line on Batman Avenue, outside the MCG Precinct.

Tram

Due to the road closures implemented to support Melbourne Marathon, trams will be running altered routes and the following service changes will apply from 4.30am to 2pm on Sunday 12 October.

Swanston Street tram Routes 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 & 72: No trams between the Arts Centre and Lonsdale Street from 4.30am until 1.45pm

Flinders Street tramRoutes 35, 70 & 75: No trams along Flinders St between Spring Street & Elizabeth Street from 4.30am until 1.45pm

Batman Avenue tram Route 70: No trams in Batman Avenue Between Stop 7C MCG Gates 4-7 / John Cain Arena and Flinders Street from 4.30am until 1.30pm

St Kilda Road trams:

  • Route 1: No trams turning into or out of Southbank Boulevard and St Kilda Road from 4.30am until 12.15pm
  • Route 58: No trams turning into or out of Park Street into St Kilda Road from 4.30am until 12.15pm
  • Route 30 & 35: No trams turning into Flinders Street from 4.30am until 1pm

Fitzroy Street tram Routes 16 & 96:

  • Route 96: No trams turning into or out of St Kilda Light Rail into Fitzroy Street from 5.45am to 11.30am
  • Route 16: No trams along Fitzroy Street from 6am until 1.45pm

Tram Shuttles will operate during the event:

  • Swanston Street Shuttles to operate between Stop 1 Melbourne University and Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station shunting at Little Lonsdale St from 4.30am to 1.45pm.
  • Flinders Street Shuttles to operate between Stop D11 Waterfront City Docklands and Stop 4 Flinders St Station / Elizabeth Street from 4.30am to 1.45pm.

Bus

Due to the road closures implemented to support Melbourne Marathon, buses will be running altered routes and the following service changes will apply from first service to 2pm on Sunday 12 October.

Route 246

​Bus 246 services will operate between Clifton Hill and High St/ Punt Road. Services will then run Express via Punt Road, deviating via Barkly Street, St Kilda Street, Brighton Road, Glenhuntly Road to Elsternwick Station.

A bus 246 shuttle will be implemented from High Stret/ Punt Road to Elsternwick Station via Barkly Street & Glenhuntly Road stopping all stops, from first service until 3pm.

Route 600

Bus 600 services will divert via Inkerman Street, St Kilda Road and Alma Street, to operate to and from a temporary terminus located at Stop 1110 Waterloo Crescent/ Barkly Street and not service Fitzroy Street from first service until 11am.

Route 604

Bus 604 services to and from Anzac Station will terminate and recommence at Stop 48555 Alfred Hospital and not service St Kilda Road or Anzac Station from first service to 6am.

Route 605

Bus 605 services will divert via Alexandra Avenue and City Road between Anderson Street and Queensbridge in both directions and not service sections of Anderson Street and Domain Road from first service until 1.30pm.

Route 606

Bus 606 services from Fisherman’s Bend will terminate at Mary Street, due to Fitzroy Street closure from first services until 12pm.

Bus 606 services from Elsternwick Station will depart from Mary Street, with services terminated between Elsternwick Station and Mary Street from first service until 12pm.

Route 922

Bus 922 services will divert via Inkerman Street, St Kilda Road and Alma Street, to operate to and from a temporary terminus located at Stop 1110 Waterloo Crescent/ Barkly Street and not service Fitzroy Street from first service until 11am.
