Your payment options

We are progressively rolling out myki and contactless on V/Line train lines.

Using a V/Line ticket

You can still use a paper ticket or eTicket, even where myki and contactless are available. You'll need one for V/Line coaches, and for any line where myki and contactless aren't available yet.

Using myki or contactless

myki and contactless are rolling out across V/Line train lines, with more lines added each week.

How much you'll pay

There's a limit to how much you'll pay each day. Once you reach it, the rest of your travel is free.

Daily fare cap

Public transport is half price until 1 January 2027, and the prices below reflect this discount.

Weekday cap: $5.70 full fare | $2.85 concession
Weekend cap: $4.00 full fare | $2.00 concession | Seniors free

Until you reach the cap, how much you pay depends on how far you travel, see regional train and bus fares.

After you reach the cap

Nothing changes. If you're using myki or contactless, keep tapping on and off as normal, you won't be charged again. If you're using a paper ticket or eTicket, just show it if asked.

Using a V/Line ticket and a myki in one trip

If part of your journey uses a myki and part uses a V/Line ticket, buy one ticket that covers the whole trip, at a staffed station or on the V/Line website.
