Instant top up on the PTV App
Top up your myki Money balance instantly using the PTV App on your smartphone.
How Instant Top Up works
You’ll need to have the PTV App and a compatible iPhone or Android phone. Simply hold your physical myki card to the back of your phone and top up your myki immediately using near field communication (NFC) technology.
You can choose to complete an anonymous top up or log in to your myki account.
Benefits of Instant Top Up
- Instantly top up at home, at work or on-the-go.
- Decide when and how much to top up your myki Money.
How to complete Instant Top Up
- Go to the ‘myki’ tab of the PTV App.
- If you’re logged in, select a myki and tap ‘Top up’. If you’re topping up anonymously, select 'myki top up' and tap 'scan myki'.
- The app will ask you to scan your myki. Hold your myki smartcard to the back of your phone.
- A large tick will appear on the screen. You will see your myki card details. To continue, tap 'Top up'.
- Select the top up amount ($10, $20, $50 or another whole dollar amount between $1 and $250).
- Enter your card payment details.
- Tap the ‘proceed’ button.
- Tap the ‘pay now’ button.
- The app will ask you to scan your myki again. You can cancel the top up at this point, by tapping ‘Cancel top up’.
- If you scan your myki again, you'll see a 'scan successful' message. You’ll then see a confirmation screen. You can save the confirmation screen as an image or an attachment by tapping the 'share' icon in the app.
Your balance may take a few moments to update in the app. Scan your myki to check the balance.
Tips for using NFC top up
- Place your myki card 1-2 centimetres away from your phone and hold it there for 5-10 seconds.
- Try holding your myki near different areas on the back of your phone to activate the NFC chip.
- Your actual myki balance may take some time to update in the app. To check the latest balance, use your phone to scan your myki card.
If card scan is unsuccessful
- If your card doesn’t scan successfully, the app will ask you to try again.
- Try slowly moving your myki around the back of the phone. Hold your card 1-2 centimetres away from the phone for 5-10 seconds.
- Also check that your phone is compatible and connected to mobile data or wi-fi.
