Project update – September 2025

This year we’ve completed road maintenance works on the Melba Highway in Yering, Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek and Glenburn to provide smoother and safer journeys.

Our upcoming program includes major works to:

  • strengthen the Maroondah Aqueduct bridge on Eltham-Yarra Glen Road in Yarra Glen, and
  • repair two landslips on the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek, just south of the Healesville-Kinglake Road intersection.

Works are being staged to minimise disruptions to the community and manage the significant volume of daily traffic, heavy vehicles and people who use these roads and recreationally visit the Yarra Valley.

Please note, construction timeframes are subject to change depending on weather and ground conditions.

Safer speeds on the Melba Highway, Yarra Glen to Coldstream

We’re making it safer for all road users to travel on the Melba Highway, with a new 70km/h speed limit to help prevent crashes and save lives.

The new speed limit will be in place on approximately 7km of the Melba Highway between Healesville-Yarra Glen Road in Yarra Glen and Maroondah Highway in Coldstream. The 40km/h school speed zone will be maintained on the Melba Highway at Yering Primary School.

New speed signs will be installed by the end of October 2025, weather permitting.

The new speed limit of 70km/h will become legally enforceable once signs are installed and uncovered. Drivers should be aware of the changed road conditions and drive carefully.

Managing speed limits is key to bringing down the number of lives lost on our roads. Speed is the most critical risk factor in road crashes because it influences the likelihood of a crash happening, and how severe it is.
