Melba Highway landslip repairs, Dixons Creek
We’re repairing two landslips on a section of the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek between Healesville-Kinglake Road and north of Hunts Lane.
Planned
30/01/2025
Update – January 2025
Works to repair the landslips on the Melba Highway are expected to start on Monday 17 February and be completed by the end of March 2025. Dates are subject to change, depending on weather conditions.
What to expect
- The impacted section of the Melba Highway between Healesville-Kinglake Road and north of Hunts Lane will be closed from 7am Monday 17 February to the end of March 2025.
- Melba Highway will reopen for the Labour Day long weekend from Friday afternoon 7 March to 7am Tuesday 11 March in both directions with temporary speed limits in place.
- Access to all properties and businesses along the Melba Highway to the south of the Healesville-Kinglake intersection will be maintained from Yarra Glen. No access will be permitted through the worksite on the Melba Highway from the Healesville-Kinglake Road intersection.
- We will maintain access for emergency services for the majority of works, with traffic controllers on-site 24/7. There will be times where emergency services access will be impacted due to heavy machinery in operation. We will continue to work with emergency services and notify them of any changes to access.
Detours
- A detour for light vehicles, rigid truck and buses will be in place via Healesville-Kinglake Road and Healesville-Yarra Glen Road. Drivers can expect additional travel times of over 30 minutes.
- There will be significant disruptions to heavy vehicles and we ask drivers to plan-ahead using the National Network Maps, as there will be no access through the work site.
- Healesville-Kinglake Road will be restricted for some classes of heavy vehicles from the Melba Highway intersection to Chum Creek.
Semitrailer combinations, rigid truck and trailer combination, or vehicles with a length greater than 19m will be required to detour via:
- Whittlesea-Yea Road and Plenty Road.
- Melba Highway, Healesville-Kinglake Road towards Kinglake and Whittlesea-Kinglake Road.
Alternatively, these vehicles may choose to detour earlier via the Goulburn Valley Highway and the Hume Freeway. B-doubles and vehicles over 19m can expect additional travel times of over 90 minutes.

Temporary speed reduction on Healesville-Kinglake Road.
We will be introducing a temporary 60km/h speed limit on Healesville-Kinglake Road between Toolangi and Chum Creek. This is to ensure the safety of road users while there are increased traffic volumes using this route.
These temporary traffic management arrangements will be closely monitored and changes will be implemented as required to ensure the safety and operation of this road.
Support local businesses
Businesses along the Melba Highway and surrounding area remain open and trading as usual. Access will be maintained from Yarra Glen. Plan your journey ahead if travelling to the area to support local businesses during works.
Thank you for your understanding as we complete these critical works.
