Melba Highway landslip repairs, Dixons Creek

We’ve repaired two landslips on a section of the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek, approximately 3km south of the Healesville-Kinglake Road intersection.

Project status:

Complete

Update – December 2025

Major construction to repair two landslips along a 130m stretch of the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek are now complete.

Both lanes on the Melba Highway have reopened and the speed limit has been reinstated to 80km/h.

Repairing these landslips was essential to keep the Melba Highway safe and maintain a reliable road network that supports thousands of daily commuters and underpins tourism and agriculture industries in the Yarra Valley and beyond.

We thank the community for your patience while we completed these important works.

Safer speeds on the Melba Highway, Yarra Glen to Coldstream

We’ve made it safer for all road users to travel on the Melba Highway, with a new 70km/h speed limit to help prevent crashes and save lives.

The new speed limit has been in place since 30 October, and covers approximately 7km of the Melba Highway between Healesville-Yarra Glen Road in Yarra Glen and Maroondah Highway in Coldstream. The 40km/h school speed zone will be maintained on the Melba Highway at Yering Primary School.

The new speed limit of 70km/h became legally enforceable once the speed limit signs were installed and uncovered. Drivers should be aware of the changed road conditions and drive carefully.

Managing speed limits is key to bringing down the number of lives lost on our roads. Speed is the most critical risk factor in road crashes because it influences the likelihood of a crash happening, and how severe it is.
