Background
The Western Roads Upgrade has improved connectivity and connections for growing communities in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
Benefits include:
- removed bottlenecks and improved safety across a network of 8 major roads in the west
- better connections to key interchanges onto the Western and Princes freeways
- better traffic flow and connections between key roads across Melbourne’s west
- better walking and cycling connections across the west.
The upgrade improved eight key arterial roads, including new lanes, intersections, ramps and safety improvements.
Between 2018 and 2021, crews resurfaced 260km of road between Footscray to Werribee as part of the upgrade.
Resurfacing and maintenance works will continue as part of the 20-year maintenance contract with Netflow Consortium, managed by Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
In addition to maintenance on 49 roads in Melbourne’s west, we’re maintaining key arterial roads and structures including Geelong Road, Ballarat Road, Blackshaws Road, Kororoit Creek Road and Dohertys Road as part of this year’s Western Roads Upgrade maintenance program.
