Road maintenance program 2026-27
Maintaining our roads is an essential part of keeping millions of people and hundreds of thousands of tonnes of freight on the move across Victoria.
Transport Victoria undertakes regular road maintenance activities to keep the network smooth and efficient for all road users.
The 2026/27 road maintenance program focusses on rebuilding, resurfacing and strengthening roads across the state, while repairing damage caused by recent extreme weather.
Crews will deliver 1000 major road repair projects on 180 roads.
As part of the 2026/27 maintenance program, Transport Victoria will;
- Repair 500,000 potholes
- Patch, rebuild or resurface more than 6 million m2 of the network
- Repaint 3000km of line marking
- Fix 30,000 signs
Crews will also maintain bridges, traffic lights and roadside infrastructure, and mow thousands of kilometres of roadside grass, remove rubbish and clean graffiti.
While road maintenance occurs all year round, major works are undertaken during the warmer, drier months to ensure repairs are long lasting.
As the work program ramps up, there will be detours and disruptions. Motorists are urged to slow down, follow traffic management directions on site and drive safely around road workers.
