Public transport now half price for everyone

Public transport is half price across the state for everyone, every day, from Monday 1 June 2026 until 1 January 2027.

Published date:

22/05/2026

During this time, the maximum cost of Full Fare daily travel will go from $11.40 to $5.70, while concession fares will drop from $5.70 to $2.85, delivering immediate cost-of-living relief.

The discount is for travel on all trains, trams and buses; and regional trains, coaches and buses (including intertown and regional town bus services). It excludes SkyBus, ferries, and non-subsidised regional bus services.

Discounted travel is for everyone across Victoria, including concession holders (such as students and seniors), whose already discounted fares will be cut in half again.

It’s time to tap on! To access the discount, passengers can continue to tap on as usual, and the fare will automatically calculate at half price.

Customers can also continue to access free travel through the early bird program on metropolitan trains if they tap on and off before 7am.

Children and young people under 18 can continue to travel for free with their Youth myki, and seniors can continue to travel for free on weekends.

myki Pass

For customers who had a valid myki Pass during the April–May free travel period, there are a number of ways to receive your extended benefits, depending on your pass type. This allows you to use your pass now that half price fares have resumed.

Find out more information on myki Pass extensions.

Contactless payment program resumes

Tap and go ticketing trials will also resume in June on selected train lines before being rolled out on the myki train network.

More information about contactless payments is available at more ways to tap and go.

V/Line and regional services

Bookings and seat reservations will recommence from Monday 1 June 2026, at half price.

Group travel bookings can also be made at the discounted price.

Regional coach tickets can be booked at staffed regional and metropolitan train stations as well as V/Line booking agents. More information about bookings is available on the V/Line website.

If you have already booked for travel after 1 June 2026, you can apply for a partial refund online by completing the customer feedback form at vline.com.au/contact-us or visit a staffed station.
