Public interest disclosures

Public interest disclosures give you legal protection if you report wrongdoing in the public sector.

We support protected disclosure

Transport Victoria is committed to the aims and objectives of the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2012 (PID Act).

Transport Victoria does not tolerate improper conduct by its employees nor the taking of reprisals against those who disclose such conduct or those who co-operate with an investigation of such conduct.

View information on IBAC information for principal officers, including mandatory notifications.

The PID Welfare Management Guideline facilitates the making of public interest disclosures (PIDs) and protection of individuals against detrimental action taken in reprisal for making a PID against Transport Victoria, a Transport Victoria employee, officer or contractor (Transport Victoria people) in accordance with the PID Act.

This procedure does not apply to complaints made or matters raised under other internal complaint mechanisms, which are dealt with in accordance with other procedures.

Further information can be found on the Department of Transport and Planning Reporting page.

Making public interest disclosures

If a person contacts Transport Victoria and appears to be attempting to make a protected disclosure, they must be informed that under the PID Act:

  1. Transport Victoria is not authorised to receive PIDs; and
  2. a PID against Transport Victoria must be made directly to IBAC:

In person: IBAC, Level 1, North Tower, 459 Collins Street, Melbourne, 3001
Postal address: IBAC, GPO Box 24234, Melbourne, VIC 3001
Phone: 1300 735 135, Fax: (03) 8635 6444
Online: www.ibac.vic.gov.au

IBAC will determine whether a disclosure is a public interest disclosure or not.

If IBAC determines that a disclosure is a PID, it must deal with the disclosure in accordance with the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission Act 2011 (IBAC Act).

Mandatory notification of suspected corruption

The Transport Victoria Chief Executive Officer is required to notify IBAC using the prescribed notification form on IBAC's information for principal officers page if the CEO suspects corruption is occurring or has occurred, in accordance with IBAC directions made under the IBAC Act.
