Free Tram Zone

You can use trams for free within the Free Tram Zone map [PDF], which includes the CBD and Docklands.

You don’t need a myki when only travelling within the Free Tram Zone, including on the City Circle Tram route.

If you accidentally tap on with a myki card, you'll be charged a 2-hour fare for Zone 1+2. To be eligible for a reimbursement, you must tap off within the Free Tram Zone.

If your journey starts or ends outside the Free Tram Zone, you must use your myki card as normal.

myki Pass If you travel most days, you can save money with myki Pass. You can buy a myki Pass for 7 days or anywhere between 28 and 365 days.

For eligible travellers

Youth myki Young people under 18 can travel for free on Victorian public transport with a Youth myki.
Commuter Club Organisations can buy discounted yearly myki Passes through Commuter Club for their employees.
Concessions Eligible travellers can get a Concession myki that takes fifty per cent off your fare.
Free travel pass Eligible people can travel for free on public transport.
Group travel authority Use a Group Travel Authority to save money when you travel in a group of 12 or more.

Travel during off-peak times

Cheaper travel after 6pm If you tap on after 6pm, you can travel until 3am the next day. This gives you up to nine hours of travel for the price of two hours.
Early bird train travel

Your metropolitan train journey is free if you tap on and off before 7am on a weekday.

You only get the free early bird train fare if you:

  • Travel on:
    • a metropolitan train
    • a V/Line service between Pakenham/Sunbury and Melbourne.
  • Don’t have a negative myki Money balance.
  • Tap on and tap off within two hours and before 7.15am on a weekday.

We give you a 15-minute buffer (until 7.15am) to get off a train and tap off on a myki reader.

To make sure you get the early bird fare, use train services that arrive at your destination by 7am.

Weekend fares

On weekends and public holidays, your daily myki Money fare is capped at half price for concessions, while children under 5 travel free. You can enjoy all-day unlimited travel.

Some customers are eligible for free weekend travel if they have certain concessions or a free travel pass.
