Permits

Accessible parking permits

If you have a significant disability, injury or are legally blind you may be eligible for an accessibility parking permit.

An accessibility parking permit lets you park in accessible parking bays or for double the usual time in regular bays.

Apply for an accessibility parking permit.

Permits are limited to one per eligible person.

They must be:

  • displayed only while the permit owner is using the vehicle (as a driver or a passenger)
  • displayed so the permit number, expiry date and QR Code are clearly visible from the vehicle's exterior.

You can't use accessible parking permits to park in restricted locations such as:

  • clearways
  • 'no stopping' or 'no parking' areas
  • 'taxi only' areas
  • bus zones
  • authorised resident areas.

Any parking fees still apply.

Apply for or renew a permit

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the accessible parking permit website. You will get an SMS reference number. If necessary, your medical practitioner can start the online application on your behalf.
  2. Take your reference number to your medical practitioner or for mobility only conditions to your occupational therapist.
  3. Your medical practitioner or occupational therapist will complete the online assessment and submit the application.
  4. Your local council will review your application, and an outcome will be sent via mail.
  5. You should receive your outcome within 10-15 days.

If successful, your permit will be sent out in the mail.
