Accessible parking permits
If you have a significant disability or injury, you may be eligible for an accessibility parking permit.
An accessibility parking permit lets you park in accessible parking bays or for double the usual time in regular bays.
Apply for an accessibility parking permit.
Permits are limited to one per eligible person.
They must be:
- displayed only while the permit owner is using the vehicle (as driver or a passenger)
- displayed so the permit number, expiry date and QR Code are clearly visible from the exterior of the vehicle.
You can't use accessible parking permits to park in restricted locations such as:
- clearways
- 'no stopping' or 'no parking' areas
- 'taxi only' areas
- bus zones
- authorised resident areas.
Any parking fees still apply.
Permit expiration
- Short-term permits can last for six months, one year or two years.
- Long-term permits last for five years.
- Organisation permits can last for a maximum of 12 months.
Apply for or renew a permit
All applicants must complete this process in order to get a permit.
Follow these steps to apply for or renew a permit:
- Apply for or renew a permit on the accessible parking permit website. You will get an SMS reference number. Your medical practitioner can start the online application on your behalf, if necessary.
- Take your reference number to an occupational therapist appointment.
- Ask your medical practitioner to complete an online assessment and submit the application.
- Your local council reviews your application.
- If successful, you will receive their permit in the mail.
You should receive your application outcome 10 to 15 days after your assessment.
Permits for permanently disabled persons
If you have a permanent disability, check when you last completed an assessment.
