Hazard perception practice tests for probationary drivers
Practise your hazard perception skills with our online hazard perception test.
These nine free practice tests look just like the real Hazard Perception Test.
They allow you to practice responding to simulated video clips of different driving scenarios and common hazards that could appear in the suburbs, city, or on country roads.
Use these tests as many times as you like. We don't save your practice test results.
The hazard perception test demonstrations require real-time feedback to visual media and thus are not available for screen reader technology.
Check your setup
To get the best experience, we recommend using a desktop with a widescreen monitor. We don't recommend using a mobile phone.
Check that:
- your computer mouse works
- your volume is on
- you're in a quiet place where you can focus
- your computer browser is up to date.
Using the practice videos
- Click on ‘Launch videos’ to open the video player in a separate window.
- Read the instructional text at the top of each video.
- Click on the ‘Play’ button to begin.
- For each scenario, you can choose to act by clicking the action button at the top right. After you've taken action or non-action, feedback is displayed on-screen to let you know if you’ve responded correctly.
- Click on ‘close’ to return to the main menu and ‘refresh’ to get a new list of videos.
See feedback on your answer
Once you've completed a test, the video will tell you if you’ve responded correctly or incorrectly. You should aim to get more driving practice for scenarios you've responded incorrectly to before trying again.
Get lots of real driving practice
You should get lots of supervised driving practice with your supervising driver or instructor in different conditions.
You can also review your knowledge of the road rules and the stages of driving for ways to improve your hazard perception on the myLearners website.
