Motorcycle Safety Infrastructure Program

The Motorcycle Safety Infrastructure Program will make Victorian roads safer for motorcyclists.


The Program will introduce a range of new road treatments such as:  
 

  • new motorcyclist friendly barrier treatments
  • retrofitting ‘rub rail’ barrier protection to existing barriers
  • improving signs and line marking
  • bell mouth and shoulder sealing.


The first stage of the Motorcycle Safety Infrastructure Program includes $10.6 million to deliver 8 projects in Gippsland, Hume and Loddon Mallee Regions that will reduce the likelihood and severity of motorcycle crashes.

Projects will be delivered by the end 2027 in the following council areas.  

Baw Baw, South Gippsland and LaTrobe Shire Council 

  • Mirboo North Trafalgar Road near Trafalgar
  • Willowgrove Road near Trafalgar, Willow Grove and Hill End
  • Old Sale Road – in Baw Baw Shire Council

Shire of Murrindindi

  • Broadford-Flowerdale Road near Strath Creek
  • Whittlesea-Yea Road in near Yea
  • Mansfield-Whitfield Road near Mansfield and Whitfield

Towong Shire Council

  • Granya Road in near Bullioh and Granya

Shire of Wellington

  • Licola Road near Heyfield, Glenmaggie and Licola.


The Program will be funded by $5.6 million from the Motorcycle Safety Levy and $5 million will be funded by the Australia Government from the Commonwealth Road Safety Program.
