
Prepare for your motorcycle licence
Find out what you need to do get your motorcycle or motor scooter licence and what you'll be tested on.
To get your motorcycle or motor scooter licence, you need to book with an approved training and assessing provider. The fees for the two-day learner course and the motorcycle licence test depend on the accredited provider you choose.

Learner permit and licence eligibility
To get a motorcycle licence or learner’s permit, you must:
- be 18 years or older
- be a Victorian resident
- complete all the required tests
- not be subject to a Fines Victoria licence suspension
- be medically fit to ride. Read more about medical reviews.

Training and assessing providers
You can complete a motorcycle learner permit, motorcycle licence test or training at an accredited training and assessing provider. For further information about their services, please contact a provider (listed below).
All accredited training and assessing providers must get approval from DTP before assessing you for your motorcycle learner permit test or motorcycle licence test.

Do I meet the licence test critera?
You can’t sit the motorcycle licence test unless you meet one of these criteria:
- you’ve had an Australian motorcycle learner’s permit for at least three months before the test
- you’ve had an Australian or overseas motorcycle licence before.

How will I be tested?
Test | Details |

What to bring to your licence test
For a motorcycle licence test, you must bring:
- your evidence of identity documents
- a completed licence or learner permit application form (PDF)
- sensible clothing, including a long sleeve top, long pants, closed in footwear (low-heeled boots, or runners) and sunglasses
- lunch and water (check what shops are nearby before the day)
- prescription glasses, if you’re required to wear them
- wet-weather riding gear (if applicable on the day)
- an approved high visibility vest (view approved vests in licence restrictions)
You can bring your own motorcycle to the test, as long as it is fully registered, roadworthy and learner approved.

- protective eyewear
- wet-weather riding gear (if applicable on the day).
