Road workers are people too
Every day across Victoria, road workers are doing their job to manage traffic and get you home safely. For a road worker, a road worksite is their workplace.
Most of us understand that abusing road workers is unacceptable, but they often face physical and verbal aggression from speeding, distracted or impatient drivers. Research from the Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA) shows us that road workers are verbally assaulted on average once a week – simply for doing their job.
Reduced speed limits around road worksites have been designed to keep drivers and road workers safe. Following them is also the law and penalties apply, including:
- receiving a fine
- receiving demerit points
- having your licence suspended or cancelled
- having your vehicle impounded or immobilised.
Our new campaign reminds us that our actions can impact the physical and mental wellbeing of Victorian road workers. So please slow down and please be respectful. Road workers are people too.
