Hume region
Find out about the maintenance work being done in the Hume region.
We’re busy rebuilding, repairing and resurfacing roads right across the state, including key routes across the Hume Region.
This year's road maintenance program is targeting high-traffic areas and busy freight routes, including some of the most important roads connecting communities in the north east.
We regularly inspect roads and carry out emergency repairs as needed, while more extensive works, such as road rebuilding and rehabilitation, are delivered during the warmer, drier months from September to May to ensure repairs are long-lasting.
Works underway

Goulburn Valley Freeway-Hume Freeway interchange, Seymour
Transport Victoria will be undertaking sign replacement works near the Goulburn Valley Freeway-Hume Freeway interchange at Seymour in the coming weeks.
To enable work to replace the gantry signs, there will be impacts on vehicles travelling both to Wodonga and to Melbourne at different times.
On Friday 29 May 2026, there will be traffic impacts for several hours from approximately 6pm.
For the initial stage of work, a closure of the Hume Freeway ramp will require vehicles travelling from the Goulburn Valley Freeway toward Wodonga to detour via the interchange and head in the Melbourne direction, before detouring through Seymour and returning to the Hume Freeway interchange to continue toward Wodonga.
Please follow the detour signs and allow extra time.
Later that evening, the second stage of work will require a lane closure and reduced speeds for vehicles using the interchange to travel toward Melbourne.
Please follow the direction of traffic controllers on-site.
On 18 June 2026, another closure of the ramp at Seymour will be required to remove and replace the gantry sign.
From 6pm, vehicles travelling toward Wodonga will again be required to detour via the interchange and head toward Melbourne, before detouring through Seymour and returning to the Hume Freeway to continue toward Wodonga.
On 19 June 2026, from 6pm there will be a lane closure and reduced speeds for vehicles travelling toward Melbourne while the second gantry sign is replaced.
