Toorak Road maintenance

We’re delivering vital maintenance on Toorak Road in Toorak and Malvern to provide a smoother, safer journey for all road users.

Project update – July 2025

From Sunday 6 July, crews will start drainage and road maintenance works at night on Toorak Road between Glenferrie Road and Milton Parade in Malvern.

Crews will work at 9pm to 5am to minimise disruption to traffic and to keep crews safe. No works will take place on Friday nights, Saturday nights and public holidays.

These maintenance works are expected to be completed in late-July, weather permitting.

We’ll keep the community updated on the works schedule and traffic arrangements.

Please note that dates and times are subject to change based on weather conditions and the contractor’s program of works.

Drainage and kerb works from 6 July to 16 July 2025

What to expect

Crews will work on the south side of Toorak Road between Glenferrie Road and Henderson Avenue.
One lane in each direction will remain open on Toorak Road between Glenferrie Road and Henderson Avenue at night, with reduced speeds.
One westbound lane on Toorak Road will be closed during the day, with reduced speeds in place.
Periods where driveway access will be restricted at night for a few hours during kerb works. We will contact affected property owners about these temporary access restrictions.
Expect travel delays during the day. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Rehabilitation and asphalt resurfacing works from 13 July to 27 July 2025

What to expect

Crews will work on Toorak Road between Glenferrie Road and Milton Parade.
Toorak Road will be closed in both directions between Glenferrie Road and Milton Parade.
Resident access to properties in the work area will be maintained by traffic controllers on site.
Detours will be in place on Glenferrie Road, Malvern Road, Monash Freeway, Bourke Road, Tooronga Road and Riversdale Road.
No access to Toorak Road (to City) from the Monash Freeway off ramps.
Motorists travelling west along Toorak Road will detour before Milton Parade via the Monash Freeway and Tooronga Road.
All lanes in each direction on Toorak Road between Milton Parade and Glenferrie Road will be open during the day, with reduced speeds in place.
Periods where driveway access will be restricted at night for a few hours during asphalt resurfacing works. We will contact affected property owners about these temporary access restrictions.
Expect travel delays up to 10 minutes. Please allow extra travel time.

Noise during works

You may notice periods of high noise levels, vibrations, and dust coming from the work area.

Crews will work to lower these impacts, however this will not always be possible due to the nature of the works.

Crews use modern equipment to keep noise as low as possible, however, the works will unavoidably make some noise and light. For the safety of motorists and workers on site, reversing beepers are required on all machinery.

We thank the community for their patience while we complete these important maintenance works.

What we’re doing

We’re delivering vital maintenance works on Toorak Road between Kooyong Road in Toorak and Milton Parade in Malvern.

These works will involve replacing layers of the road, asphalt resurfacing and line marking to restore the condition of the road surface.

We’re also upgrading the drainage network on Toorak Road between Glenferrie Road and Milton Parade in Malvern to improve storm water flow on Toorak Road.

This work is being delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s $964 million investment in the Victorian 2024-25 road maintenance program.
