Taylors Road, Keilor Downs Pedestrian Safety Improvements

We’re improving pedestrian safety at three intersections along Taylors Road in Keilor Downs.

Project status:

Underway

Update - May 2026

We’re improving pedestrian safety at three intersections along Taylors Road in Keilor Downs:

  • At Carbine Way.
  • The entrance to Keilor Central near the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre.
  • The eastern signalised entrance to Keilor Central.

When to expect us

Works are expected to start in late-May 2026 and be completed in July 2026.

Most of the works are expected to take place during the day between 9:30am and 4pm, Mondays to Fridays.

There will be night works towards the end of construction to complete some road resurfacing and make changes to traffic light operations. These works are expected to take place between 9pm and 6am, Sundays to Thursdays.

Please note, dates are subject to change due to weather conditions and the contractor’s program of works.

What to expect

  • Single lane closures along Taylors Road at each of the three intersections. We’re staging works to minimise disruptions to the community.
  • The slip lane entrance and exit at the eastern signalised access to Keilor Central will be temporarily closed at times so that we can complete works safely. Please use the other entrances and exits instead to access Keilor Central.
  • A signed pedestrian detour will be in place at the Keilor Central entrance. Please follow the signed detour and directions of traffic management controllers on-site.
  • Medium levels of noise. Crews use modern equipment to keep noise to a minimum. However, the works will unavoidably emit some noise and light. For the safety of road users and workers on site, reversing beepers are required on all machinery.
  • A reduced speed limit around the work site to ensure the safety of crews and all road users.

Shop local

Keilor Central is open and trading as usual during works. Continue to support your local Keilor Downs businesses.

What we’re doing

Carbine Way

  • We will make changes to the traffic lights so that pedestrians crossing Taylors Road cross at separate times to drivers turning right from Carbine Way.
  • We’ll also provide a head start for pedestrians crossing Carbine Way.
  • The ‘Give Way to Pedestrians’ sign will be relocated.

Keilor Central entrance near the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre

  • We will provide a pedestrian head start at this intersection.

Keilor Central entrance at the eastern signalised access

  • We’re installing a raised zebra crossing on the slip lane from Taylors Road to the entrance of Keilor Central.
  • We’ll change the traffic light operation so that the left turn out of Keilor Central is fully controlled and pedestrians cross at separate times to drivers.
  • We’ll also extend the pedestrian fencing and change line marking to reconfigure the lanes out of Keilor Central.
  • We’re also upgrading two streetlights. These works will be completed by the power company following completion of construction works.

Why we’re doing it

These upgrades will improve pedestrian safety at the three intersections along Taylors Road.

They will also provide safer access for pedestrians and vulnerable road users crossing Taylors Road to access facilities and businesses, including bus stops, Keilor Central and Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre.
