Skenes Creek bridge improvements, Great Ocean Road

We’ve completed major works at Skenes Creek bridge on the Great Ocean Road.

The Skenes Creek bridge strengthening project is delivering a strong, safer structure for future transport needs, and improving connectivity and safer journeys along the Great Ocean Road for locals, visitors, and industry.

This project has strengthened the bridge deck, rebuilt the road approaches, and installed new safety barriers. A new pedestrian bridge was constructed, separate to the vehicle bridge, while a new pedestrian refuge and upgraded bus stops were also delivered as part of the project.

While major works are complete, there are minor activities ongoing over the coming weeks, including site clean-up. 

Overview 

Travelled by more than six million people every year, the Great Ocean Road plays a vital role in Victoria’s tourism, economy and social connectivity.

The bridge on the Great Ocean Road over Skenes Creek was built in 1979 and required essential maintenance and strengthening works.

This project was funded under the Victorian Government’s Structure Renewal Program, as part of the commitment to upgrade several bridges on the Great Ocean Road and inland routes.
