Safer speeds in Trafalgar
We're applying a safer speed limit on a section of both carriageways of the Princes Highway west of Dodemaides Road.
Trafalgar is growing, with more houses and more people entering the Princes Highway from the side roads. As areas change over time, infrastructure and the way people move around also change.
Every day, thousands of people rely on the Princes Highway to get to the shops, go to school or work, and spend time with their families.
New Limit: Princes Highway west of Dodemaides Road
To improve safety, we are applying a safer speed limit of 60km/h on a 200-metre section of both carriageways of the Princes Highway west of Dodemaides Road, previously 80km/h. To accommodate this, the 80km/h zone will also shift further west.
The speed change is expected to be in place from in April 2025.
Why a safer speed?
This 60km/h zone covers access to residential properties and businesses west of Dodemaides Road making it safer for them to enter and exit the highway.
The speed change is in response to a high number of enquiries from the community and the crash history of this section of the highway.
The Victorian Government is committed to a future where no one is killed or seriously injured on our roads.
Every life lost on our roads is one too many. Managing speed limits is key to bringing down the number of lives lost on our roads. That’s why we’re implementing safer speed limits on high-risk sections of roads to make the road network safer for everyone.
By making sure the speed limit is right for the road, we can help prevent crashes from happening and reduce the severity when they do happen.
Speed plays a part in every crash. It isn’t always the cause, but speed does influence the severity of the outcome in an accident. Safer speeds provide drivers with more time to react in dangerous situations and reduces the distance it takes for their vehicle to come to a stop.
Please travel safely and look out for the new speed limits.
