Princes Highway West - Bridge Upgrade Glenelg River, Dartmoor

We’re strengthening the Glenelg River bridge on the Princes Highway at Dartmoor.

Project status:

Underway

This upgrade will ensure the bridge continues to meet the demands of today’s traffic volumes and modern freight vehicles travelling this major highway.

Big Build Roads is delivering this project on behalf of Transport Victoria.

Update – June 2026

Work commenced in June 2026 and is expected to take up to six months to complete, subject to weather and construction requirements.

Works will include the reinforcement of beams, piles and piers to upgrade the bridge substructure and foundations, to improve the strength and durability of the bridge.

Disruptions

Crews will be on site from Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and some Saturdays between 7am and 2pm.

Traffic management will include lane closures and reduced speed limits to protect the safety of crews and road users.

At times, one lane of the Princes Highway will be closed with traffic lights at both ends of the bridge to manage traffic.

Road users should expect delays of up to 5 minutes and plan their journey to minimise disruptions.

Please visit the Big Build website or refer to roadside messaging for the most up-to-date information.

Impacts

The project’s environmental impact will be minimised, thanks to work we’ve completed with key stakeholders during the design phase. We’ll continue to work closely with those stakeholders throughout the delivery of the project.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $322.9 million to upgrades along the Princes Highway in Victoria.
