We’ve improved safety along Princes Highway - Geelong Road, between Barkly Street in Footscray and Little Boundary Road in Brooklyn to reduce road trauma and save lives.

Project status:

Complete

Update - November 2025

We’ve completed works on Princes Highway-Geelong Road, between Barkly Street in Footscray and Little Boundary Road in Brooklyn. The additional safety barriers are now in place on the centre and left-hand sides of the road at high-risk locations providing a safer journey for people travelling along this route.

We’re thankful to the community for their patience as we’ve delivered these important safety improvements.

Background

Princes Highway-Geelong Road is a major road linking suburban Melbourne to the western suburbs. It's a popular route for daily commuters, families, public transport and the freight industry.

Infrastructure plays a vital role in preventing serious crashes. It also helps reduce the severity of crashes when they’re unavoidable.

Mistakes happen, which as humans we can’t always avoid. What we can do is build more forgiving road infrastructure so that when a mistake does happen on the road, it doesn’t cost a life.

These safety improvements have been made thanks to the Transport Accident Commission’s investment into road safety infrastructure, in partnership with the Victorian Government.
