Works to upgrade the traffic lights at Princes Highway and Mackey Street in North Geelong, so pedestrians can start crossing before vehicles enter the intersection, were completed in August 2026.
This project included the installation of left-turn arrow lights, new LED ‘give way to pedestrians’ signage and refreshed line marking throughout the intersection.

The signal upgrade project will improve safety for all road users in the busy Mackey Street precinct in North Geelong.

Pedestrian head start traffic signalling displays a walk sign for pedestrians up to 10 seconds before parallel vehicle traffic lights go green.
This signal phasing increases pedestrian visibility to drivers and establishes a clear pedestrian right-of-way. This is especially important for vulnerable road users, who are more likely to be seriously injured in a crash.
