Traffic signals upgrade – Princes Highway and Mackey Street, North Geelong

We’re upgrading the traffic lights at Princes Highway and Mackey Street in North Geelong so pedestrians can start crossing before vehicles enter the intersection.

This project will include the installation of left-turn arrow lights, new LED ‘give way to pedestrians’ signage and refreshed line marking throughout the intersection.

Works are expected to begin in August 2026 and take up to a week to complete.

Construction impacts

Crews will be working at night, between 9pm and 6am.

Traffic management, including single lane closures, delays of up to five minutes and a reduced speed limit, will be in place during construction to protect the safety of crews and road users.

Please note: dates and timeframes of these works are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.

This signal phasing increases pedestrian visibility to drivers and establishes a clear pedestrian right-of-way. This is especially important for vulnerable road users, who are more likely to be seriously injured in a crash.
