Point Cook Road and Sneydes Road intersection upgrade
Project update - May 2025
We’ve completed upgrade works at the Point Cook Road and Sneydes Road intersection.
We switched on the new traffic lights at the intersection in December 2024, improving safety and access for drivers.
What we’ve done
- installed new traffic lights at the Point Cook Road and Sneydes Road intersection
- installed pedestrian crossings at the intersection
- duplicated Point Cook Road traffic lanes between Jamieson Way and Gramercy Boulevard
- resurfaced Point Cook Road between Jamieson Way and Gramercy Boulevard
- upgraded the shared user path for people walking and bike riding
- updated line marking.
What's next
Minor works are continuing with changed traffic conditions in place. This will involve works at the shared user path across Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard and installing ‘Keep Clear’ line markings on Point Cook Road at the Middle Park Drive intersection. Please observe traffic management signs and the directions of controllers on-site.
We’ve also upgraded street lighting infrastructure between Jamieson Way and Gramercy Boulevard. We’re working with the power authority to establish a permanent power connection to the site. Temporary street lighting is in place until the new street lighting can be switched on.

Public transport changes
- The Point Cook Village/Point Cook Road bus stop remains temporarily closed during works.
Support local businesses
While we complete this intersection upgrade, it’s business as usual for local traders. Access to all businesses remain open.
Shop local during works and support local businesses. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we deliver these important safety upgrades.
Changes to vehicle movements
To eliminate the risk of side impact crashes, the ability to turn right across Point Cook Road from Middle Park Drive and Point Cook Village is no longer permitted. ‘Keep Clear’ line markings will be installed on Point Cook Road at the Middle Park Drive intersection to provide space for vehicles entering Point Cook Road from Middle Park Drive.
Our Road Safety Assessment indicates it is not safe for drivers to make these right turn movements across multiple lanes.
Permanent changes to Point Cook Village
- Vehicles that wish to enter Point Cook Village are able to do so as usual.
- There is no right turn out of Point Cook Village onto Point Cook Road. Vehicles exiting Point Cook Village to travel south towards Sneydes Road need to turn left and then utilise the roundabout at Jamieson Way and the Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard.
Permanent changes to Middle Park Drive
- Vehicles travelling towards the Jamieson Way/Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard roundabout that wish to enter Middle Park Drive are able to do so by utilising the roundabout, heading south along Point Cook Road and turning left into Middle Park Drive.
- Vehicles that wish to exit Middle Park Drive to travel towards Jamieson Way and Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard need to turn left onto Point Cook Road and then U-turn at the new signalised intersection at Sneydes Road.

Project background
This T-intersection is made up of two roads—Point Cook Road, which is an arterial road and Sneydes Road, which is a local road.
Before the intersection upgrade, drivers were waiting long periods to turn right onto Point Cook Road from Sneydes Road due to large traffic volumes, making it difficult and unsafe for everyone attempting to turn into constantly flowing traffic. This caused traffic to bank up and created congestion during peak hours.
Point Cook and Sneydes Roads connect the community to the Princes Freeway, other Western suburbs, many schools and childcare centres and the large Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Precinct.
Before the intersection upgrade, there was no location for people walking or bike riding to safely cross Point Cook Road between Jamieson Way and Gramercy Boulevard.
Point Cook Road has approximately 32,000 vehicles travel on it each day and Sneydes Road has approximately 11,000.
Over the five-year period to 30 June 2020, there were four major accidents recorded at this intersection, with one of those accidents resulting in serious injuries. As well as the recorded accidents, there have been numerous near misses at the intersection.
