Northern Highway - Epping - Kilmore Road (Wandong Road) roundabout Kilmore
We’re preparing for the construction of a dual-lane roundabout at the intersection of the Northern Highway and Epping-Kilmore Road (Wandong Road) near Kilmore.
Underway
The dual-lane roundabout is specifically designed to meet the future needs of the intersection and the growing demand on the network in Mitchell Shire and surrounds.
Update - August 2026
Construction is progressing on a new roundabout at the intersection of the Northern Highway and Epping-Kilmore Road (Wandong Road) near Kilmore and is expected to be complete late 2026, weather permitting.
Crews have completed construction of the half of the roundabout closest to the Epping-Kilmore Road (Wandong Road) intersection and are now working on the western side of the roundabout.
Changed traffic conditions remain in place to keep everyone safe including a reduced speed limit on the Northern Highway and Epping-Kilmore Road. Single lane closures may be required at times.
Please look out for signs, follow the direction of traffic controllers and allow extra time when travelling through the area.

Vegetation removal and reuse
We have designed this project to minimise vegetation removal where possible. However, to accommodate the new roundabout some native and non-native trees and vegetation surrounding the intersection were removed during the early stages of works.
The salvaged timber from site has been donated to the Taungurung Land and Waters Council. The timber has now been reused to provide aquatic habitat in local lagoons (see image below) and will also be used to construct wicking beds to generate native seedlings for the area.
We will also utilise local indigenous plant species to revegetate the area as part of the project landscaping.
Overview
The dual-lane roundabout will meet the future needs of the intersection, reduce the potential for congestion and provide improved safety for all road users.
Roundabouts are one of the safest types of intersections because they slow traffic to safe speeds and direct traffic flow in the one direction.
This new roundabout will improve safety at the intersection by:
- improving traffic flow
- providing safer turning opportunities
- encouraging drivers to slow down
- improving the visibility of the intersection and installing new lighting
We’ve also considered the increasing demand on the road network to accommodate oversize overmass (OSOM) vehicles.
This project is funded by the Victorian Government.
