Noise wall replacements at Western Freeway, Melton
We’re replacing sections of the Western Freeway noise wall in Melton, as part of the Victorian 2025-26 Structures Renewal Program.
Planned
What we’re doing
We’re replacing sections of the Western Freeway noise wall in Melton.
We’re removing the timber noise walls along the Western Freeway citybound on-ramp from Coburns Rd (200m length), and Western Freeway outbound off-ramp to Coburns Rd (300m length) and replacing them with new corrugated steel panel noise walls.

Map showing where we’re replacing existing noise walls in Melton.
The new noise walls will be the same height and length as the existing timber noise walls but made from corrugated steel, designed to be stronger and longer lasting.
We have worked closely with designers and arborists to reduce any impacts to trees, where possible. To replace the noise walls, we need to trim and remove some trees including native vegetation within the project area. On the inbound ramp, 5 out of 45 trees will require removal and on the outbound ramp, 38 out of 81 trees will require removal.
Comprehensive landscaping will be undertaken at the conclusion of the project that will include planting 750 native trees, shrubs and grasses.
When to expect us
Our contractor will need to conduct site assessments prior to works commencing, and impacted residents will be contacted in advance. These preliminary investigations are expected to take place between late April and early May 2026.
Works to replace the noise walls are expected to begin in August 2026 and be completed in late 2026.
Please note, dates and times may change due to weather or the contractor’s program of works.
We will keep the community informed about timeframes and impacts closer to the start of works.
