Route 82
We are getting Route 82 in Melbourne’s north west ready for the next generation of trams, the G Class as part of the Next Generation Trams enabling infrastructure works.
G Class trams will set a new standard for modern public transport by delivering a more comfortable, accessible and energy efficient journey for passengers.
The 25-metre-long G Class trams hold up to 150 passengers – almost twice as many as the oldest trams currently operating in Melbourne’s west.
They feature a more accessible low-floor design, more doors, handrails and improvements to passenger information to make it easier for everyone to use public transport.
The first G Class trams have begun testing, ahead of taking passengers on routes 57, 59 and 82 over coming years.
About Route 82
Route 82 operates from Footscray to Moonee Ponds via Droop Street, Maribyrnong Road and Maribyrnong.
Route 82 passengers take over a million trips a year to jobs, education, shopping, services, leisure, and cultural activities in the Inner West.
G Class trams operating on Route 82 will provide better connectivity to key destinations such as Footscray Market, Highpoint Shopping Centre, Puckle Street shopping and Moonee Ponds Racecourse.
Works will be undertaken in stages.
