New signalised pedestrian crossing on Diamond Creek Road, Greensborough
Planned
Update - April 2026
We’re building a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Diamond Creek Road in Greensborough to improve pedestrian safety.
Major construction works to build the new signalised pedestrian crossing are expected to begin in May 2026 and be completed by late 2026. We’ll let the community know of the expected start date and times of work before construction begins.
Most works will take place at night when traffic volumes are lower to keep road users and crews safe. Please note, construction dates and times are subject to weather conditions and the contractor’s program of works.
The switch on of the pedestrian lights will occur following construction works. There can sometimes be a delay between construction works finishing and lights being switched on as they are subject to connection and activation by the external power authority.
What to expect during works
- Lane closures in both directions on Diamond Creek Road at the work site. Please follow the directions of traffic management signage and controllers on-site.
- Medium to high levels of noise. Crews use modern equipment to keep noise low, however the works will unavoidably emit some noise and light. We will schedule the noisiest works in the earlier part of the shift, where possible.
- Access to properties will be maintained.
- A reduced speed limit of 40km/h to ensure the safety of crews and all road users.
We’re working closely with the North East Link to coordinate construction works and minimise disruptions to the community.
What we’re doing
We’re building a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Diamond Creek Road, south of Greenhill Road in Greensborough to improve pedestrian safety and access to bus stops.
As part of the improvements, we will also:
- Build a ramp in the centre of the pedestrian crossing for accessibility and install pedestrian fencing.
- Relocate the northbound bus stop at Greenhill Road/Diamond Creek Road approximately 100m south so it’s closer to the new signalised pedestrian crossing.
- Remove the existing pedestrian refuge north of Greenhill Road.
- Consolidate bus stops with low usage in the area by permanently closing the bus stops at Avandina Crescent/Diamond Creek Road and Spring Street/Diamond Creek Road.
- Install a ‘U-Turn Must Give Way’ sign at the Diamond Creek Road and Avandina Crescent intersection.
- Refresh and extend the existing cycle lane markings at the crossing in the northbound direction.
- Constructing kerb outstands at the crossing.
- Trim and remove two trees and some low-lying vegetation.
To make these improvements, we will need to remove up to four on-street parking spaces outside 100 and 102 Diamond Creek Road.

Bus stop closure
The northbound bus stop at Avandina Crescent/Diamond Creek Road is closed. Please use the nearby bus stops at Delfin Crescent/Diamond Creek Road (approx. 400m south) and Greenhill Road/Diamond Creek Road (approx. 300m north).
Background
The section of Diamond Creek Road between Civic Drive and St Helena Road is a key connection to local schools and amenities.
Between May and July 2023, there were two crashes resulting in the serious injury of two students within this section of road.
Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a crash, making them some of the most vulnerable road users.
The new signalised pedestrian crossing will assist pedestrians to safely cross the road, including students and bus users accessing the bus stops.
A safer speed limit of 60km/h was introduced in late 2024 on Diamond Creek Road between Civic Drive and Plenty River Drive.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Victorian Government under the Road Safety Program.
