Accessibility and safety

Your new Metro Tunnel stations have accessibility features to support smoother journeys.

Stations

All five Metro Tunnel stations feature:

  • platform screen doors
  • escalators and lifts
  • customer service counters and Help Points
  • tactile ground surface indicators
  • braille and tactile signs
  • announcements and hearing loops
  • improved information screens
  • accessible toilets, ambulant cubicles
  • Changing Places (adult change rooms)

Passengers who use wheelchairs or mobility devices should continue to board at the first carriage. Station or Help Point customer service staff can alert the driver of your destination.

Platform screen doors

Platform screen doors at a Metro Tunnel station platform.
  • Platform screen doors improve safety and reduce noise and wind inside the station.
  • Doors open and close automatically. You don’t need to press a button.
  • Lights and a beeping chime indicate when the doors are opening and closing.
  • Stand to the side and allow passengers to exit the train before you board.
  • Signs will guide passengers who use a wheelchair or mobility device to the first door.
  • When travelling with children, always hold their hand when boarding to avoid being separated.
  • Do not rush towards closing doors or hold the doors open.

Trains

Bigger trains will run on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line. They have wide doors and carriages.

There are priority seats throughout the train, near the doors and windows.

Screens and announcements tell you the next stop and give service updates.

Onboard hearing loop and clear audio announcements support passengers with reduced hearing.

Station staff are available seven days a week and can add a ramp at the first door of the first carriage.
