Overview

Melton Highway carries over 30,000 vehicles a day, with this number expected to increase due to rapid local growth.

Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is delivering the project on behalf of the Department of Transport and Planning.

As part of the project, we’ll:

  • add an extra lane in each direction between Crown Drive and The Regency
  • install safety barriers and new street lighting
  • extend and connect the existing shared walking and cycling path on the south side of Melton Highway
  • relocate and protect utility services including telecommunications and NBN.
  • build new kerbs and drainage
  • lay new asphalt and apply new road markings.

Update - December 2024

Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) has commenced planning on behalf of the Department of Transport and Planning for the Melton Highway Infill Duplication project, in Plumpton.

To help inform our planning and design, we’ll be undertaking a range of site assessments. To ensure these assessments are completed safely, we may need to temporarily close some lanes, use stop/slow traffic control, and temporarily reduce speeds.

We’ll do our best to keep traffic disruption to a minimum and avoid busy periods where possible.

Program of works

MRPV has started the process to engage a construction partner, with a contract expected to be awarded by mid-2025.

Construction is expected to commence in mid-2025 and be complete by late 2026.

We’ll provide more information about timing for construction of the project as our planning and design progress.

Traffic impacts

We’ll be working on Melton Highway between The Regency and Crown Drive. We'll make every effort to minimise disruption to traffic while we work.

Our work sites may include any of the following traffic management:

  • lane closures
  • reduced speed limits
  • traffic lights or controllers
  • electronic message signs
  • detours.

Emergency works

In the case of unforeseen events, emergency works may occur to ensure the safety of the road and road users. Please be aware of signs and observe changed conditions, which may include reduced speed limits and temporary lane closures.
