McIvor Highway intersections safety improvement projects

The McIvor Highway is a key route connecting Junortoun to Bendigo and Heathcote.
Project status:

Complete

Three intersections along the McIvor Highway between Bendigo and Junortoun have been made safer as part of a $23.4 million investment by the Victorian and Australian Governments.

Details

We’ve upgraded the intersection of the McIvor Highway and Popes Road in Junortoun.

This project was the third intersection to receive safety upgrades on the McIvor Highway as part of the investment by the Victorian and Australian Governments towards various rural intersection upgrades. Works have previously been completed at the Cashens Road and Wilkie Road intersections.

The intersection of the McIvor Highway and Popes Road had a history of near-misses and rear-end crashes. This upgrade has made the intersection safer for all road users.

Works included:

  • widening the road to construct a right turning lane and left turning lane from the McIvor Highway into Popes Road,
  • removal of vegetation to improve visibility,
  • minor upgrades to the existing bus stop.

These upgrades have improved safety for all road users, reducing the risk of rear-end crashes and easing traffic flow through the intersection.
