Protecting our environment

We understand the complex balance of connecting communities whilst caring for our natural environment.

We’re committed to performing our works in a thoughtful and considered way to reduce impact on the environment.

We share the value the community places on the environment and have worked hard to minimise disturbance to native wildlife and vegetation.

The Mallacoota-Genoa Road Upgrade project crosses the Croajingolong National Park, a National Park of significant environmental importance and complexity.

Some native vegetation needs to be removed for the upgrades to the Mallacoota-Genoa Road.

Our project team has developed designs to retain as much vegetation as possible and to safeguard the unique biodiversity of the Croajingolong National Park and surrounding areas.

We have obtained the required environmental approvals and offsets for these works, which will be carried out in accordance with a Construction Environmental Management Plan.

Offsets and permits are required when native vegetation is impacted, to ensure the ongoing protection and management of Victoria’s important biodiversity.

We will work closely with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action to ensure appropriate environmental controls are implemented during the construction works.

Community consultation

From January to March 2022, we carried out community consultation on the Engage Victoria platform to gather feedback on access and safety.

A Community Reference Group was also formed to help identify priority locations along the route.
