We have improved Main-Neerim Road between Rokeby and Noojee to provide a safer and more reliable journey for road users.
Complete
Works complete - June 2026
Works on improvements to Main Neerim Road between Rokeby and Noojee are now complete. Thank you for your patience during construction.
The safety improvements include:
- shoulder sealing
- sealing side road bell mouths (the area where side roads join the main road) and vehicle pull-over areas
- upgrading safety barriers
- line marking and signage improvements
- a safer 80km/h speed limit between Old Sale Road in Drouin West and Bloomfield Road in Crossover.
Benefits
These works will improve safety by:
- reducing the likelihood and severity of run-off-road crashes
- helping drivers stay in control if their vehicle leaves the road
- improving traction by reducing dirt and gravel on the road, and
- reducing the risk of crashes by lowering speeds.
Overview
This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments through the Road Safety Program to improve safety and efficiency along Main-Neerim Road.
Main-Neerim Road provides a north-south connection between Drouin and Noojee, providing access to residents, farming properties and the alpine resort township of Mount Baw Baw.
Between 2018 and 2023, there were 30 crashes along this section of road, resulting in 16 serious injuries and one tragic fatality.
These critical works will improve safety for local communities, visitors and industries.
Infrastructure plays a vital role in preventing serious crashes. It also helps reduce the severity of crashes should a crash occur.
