London Bridge safety upgrades, Ballarat-Maryborough Road, Talbot

We’re undertaking vital safety upgrades to the London Bridge on Ballarat-Maryborough Road, near Talbot.

Project status:

Underway

Project overview

London Bridge, on Ballarat-Maryborough Road near Talbot, is a narrow crossing, located on a curve at the bottom of a hill.

Safety upgrades are being delivered in response to concerns including limited visibility of approaching vehicles and larger vehicles crossing the centre line of the bridge.

Stage one of this project was completed in March 2026 and involved installing vehicle activated warning signs on both approaches to the bridge and trimming  vegetation to improve the visibility of oncoming traffic.

Project update – stage two

Works on stage two are expected to begin in late August 2026 and take approximately four months to complete, weather permitting.

Works include:

  • removing and replacing the existing kerb and barriers on the bridge and approaches with side-mounted barriers to increase shoulder width on the bridge.
  • changing the centre line marking to double white lines to prohibit overtaking on the bridge
  • resurfacing the bridge.

During construction a reduced speed limit and lane closures will be in place. Please allow extra time for your journey and follow the direction of traffic management on site.

A short term closure of Pollocks Road will be required as we complete roadworks at the intersection of Ballarat-Maryborough Road. Access to local properties will remain open during these works.
