Interim traffic lights at Lithgow Street and Hume Freeway
Planned
What we’re doing
We’re installing interim traffic lights at the eastern intersection of Lithgow Street and the Hume Freeway interchange in Beveridge.
Motorists currently experience long delays and queuing during peak morning and evening times.
We’ve carried out investigations to optimise the signal phasing during peak demand and we’ll monitor the operation of the lights after installation to make any improvements. The amount of time for the interim traffic lights to change can’t be changed remotely to adapt to traffic volumes. Any changes to the timing will need to be carried out on site.
These interim traffic lights are being delivered in collaboration with Stockland Developers and Mitchell Shire Council and will improve traffic flow on Lithgow Street, supporting increasing growth and traffic volumes.
When to expect us
The lights are expected to be installed on Saturday 12 July, subject to the contractor’s program of works. Following installation, the lights will immediately be active and will operate at all times.
What’s next
The interim traffic lights will stay in place until planned upgrades on Lithgow Street on either side of the Hume Freeway interchange are delivered. These upgrades will improve traffic flow on Lithgow Street.
We thank the community for your patience while we work with our partners to develop and deliver long term upgrades in the area to improve traffic flow and safety.
