Projects
Hume Freeway, Barnawartha - gantry removal
We’re removing an overhead gantry on the Hume Freeway at Barnawartha.
Project status:
Underway
To remove the gantry as safely and efficiently as possible, a full closure of the Hume Freeway at Barnawartha will be required from 10am to 1:30pm on Monday 24 November 2025.
Overview
The overhead gantry on the Hume Freeway at Barnawartha (near Wodonga) was previously used as a speed advisory sign but has not been operational for some time.
Because the overhead gantry spans both southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway, both lanes need to be closed so the gantry can be safely dismantled and removed.
The size of the gantry, the location and the equipment required to remove the structure, mean a full closure is necessary for the safety of motorists and our crews.
Traffic impacts
- The southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway at Barnawartha will be closed to all traffic from 10am to 1:30pm on Monday 24 November 2025, weather permitting.
- During this time vehicles heading south on the Hume Freeway will be required to exit the freeway at McKoy Street, detour via Plunketts Road and rejoin the Hume Freeway at the Murray Valley Highway interchange.
- We will be setting up the site from 9:30 and packing up at 2:30.
Please plan ahead, follow detour signs on-site and allow extra time.
