Goulburn Valley Highway (Wyndham Street), Shepparton – traffic signal works

We will be working at the intersection of the Goulburn Valley Highway (Wyndham Street) near the Shepparton Art Museum, Shepparton in August to complete minor works and prepare for activation of the traffic signals.

Project status:

Underway

Background

Traffic signals were installed on the Goulburn Valley Highway (Wyndham Street) near the intersections with Fitzjohn Street and Hassett Street/McIntosh Street by Greater Shepparton City Council several years ago to support safe access to the Shepparton Art Museum.

Due to the proximity to the railway crossing, the traffic signals need to be integrated with the railway crossing to ensure the safe and coordinated movement of traffic over the level crossing and through the intersection.

Initial plans to have the traffic signals integrated with the rail signals during Shepparton rail line upgrade works were unable to be met due to timing and coordination issues.

The Department of Transport and Planning has worked closely with Greater Shepparton City Council and key stakeholders to resolve the delay in integrating the signals, resulting in plans to activate the signals late September.

What to expect

Our crews will be onsite in August 2026 to complete concreting works, pole installation and electrical works.

To enable staged works, for example laying of a concrete base prior to pole installation, you may see our crews onsite at different times, not necessarily on consecutive days.

During works there will be lane closures and reduced speeds in place through the intersection.

Please observe changed traffic conditions, follow the direction of traffic controllers onsite and allow extra time.

It is expected these works will be complete by the end of August 2026.

Next steps

In September, V/Line will finalise works at the intersection to integrate the traffic signals with the rail crossing and activate the lights.

This work will be delivered during rail line works planned by V/Line from 14 to 16 September 2026.

For details on V/Line works and disruptions visit www.vline.com.au

At the completion of these works the traffic signals will be activated.

Please take time to observe changed traffic conditions at the intersection.
