Update – April 2026

We’ve completed major construction works and switched on the pedestrian lights at the raised signalised pedestrian crossing at Dendy Village on Hampton Street, Brighton.

What we’ve done

As part of the improvements, we have:

  • Installed a signalised pedestrian crossing at the existing pedestrian refuge outside 756 Hampton Street.
  • Built a raised safety platform at the crossing to encourage drivers to slow down as they approach the crossing.
  • Installed additional street lighting and upgraded existing street lighting to improve driver and pedestrian visibility.
  • Added ‘Keep Clear’ line markings to the Hampton Street and Marriage Road intersection.
  • Replaced the road surface with new asphalt along this section of Hampton Street.

Environmental care

We share the value that the local community places on the environment. To make these important improvements and to maintain visibility of the new pedestrian lights, we needed to remove three trees and have trimmed other trees within this section of Hampton Street.

Prior to any vegetation removal, we work with designers to try to retain existing trees and vegetation, while balancing this with the critical need to improve road safety.

Why we’ve done it

Hampton Street is a key arterial road that provides connection to Nepean Highway and Beach Road.

There are high volumes of vehicles travelling on Hampton Street through Dendy Village.

The new signalised pedestrian crossing provides safer access for pedestrians and reduces the risk of crashes involving pedestrians along Dendy Village.

These works were jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments under the Road Safety Program.
