Coolibar Avenue Pedestrian Crossing upgrades
Update - January 2026
The Coolibar Avenue pedestrian rail crossing in Seaford has been upgraded with new safety and accessibility features.
With more than 230 trains passing daily, essential safety upgrades were needed to improve safety for the local community who use the crossing.
The new design includes automatic swing gates, emergency gates, alarm bells, lighting and tactile indicators.
These works were part of the Statewide Railway Crossing Program to improve the safety and accessibility of pedestrian rail crossings.

What’s happening?
The pedestrian railway crossing at Coolibar Avenue, Seaford, will be closed for about two months from Wednesday 15 October 2025 while we deliver a vital safety upgrade.
Detours will be place for people who use the crossing until Friday 12 December 2025.
We’ll be improving safety at the Coolibar Avenue pedestrian crossing by installing new emergency gates, crossing alarm bells and lighting.
We’re also making the crossing more accessible for everyone with a new layout to improve scooter mobility and new tactile ground service indicators (TGSI). The footpaths either side of the crossing will also be resurfaced.
Pedestrian access
During the works, pedestrian detours via Eel Race Road or Armstrongs Road will be in place.
At times during the works, there may also be some short-term impacts to the Kananook Creek shared user path.
Traffic management will be in place to assist pedestrians and cyclists moving through the area. For your safety, please follow signage and instructions.

Frankston Line Disruptions
The pedestrian crossing closure coincides with other rail occupations on the Frankston Line. This limits disruption to passengers and residents in the local area. Bus replacement services will be in operation. Use journey planner to plan your journey or call 1800 800 007.
Works will take place continuously across a two-month period to reduce the amount of disruption.
