Church Street and McCurdy Road intersection safety upgrade, Hamlyn Heights

We’ve improved the intersection of Church Street, McCurdy Road and Sladen Street intersection in Hamlyn Heights to create a safer journey for road users.

Project status:

Complete

Update - June 2026

Major works are complete and the new roundabout is open at the Church Street and McCurdy Road intersection.

The intersection safety upgrade has delivered a new roundabout to reduce the risk and severity of crashes. The new raised safety platforms on the east and west legs of the roundabout will further control speed and turning movements through the intersection. Additional safety improvements included new accessible pedestrian crossing points and pedestrian guard fences, and improved line marking, public lighting, signage and medians.

While major works are complete, there are minor ongoing works at the intersection. Minimal disruptions are expected.

Background

Church Street and McCurdy Road are key arterial routes for road users in Geelong, with approximately 8,300 vehicles per day travelling on these roads. Five per cent are heavy vehicles. Sladen Street and the western leg of Church Street are local roads.
