Calder Highway-Karadoc Avenue, Irymple intersection improvements
We’re improving safety at the intersection of the Calder Highway and Karadoc Avenue (Fifteenth Street) in Irymple with a joint $540,000 investment by the Australian and Victorian Governments under the Road Safety Program.
Underway
Works at the intersection will include:
- upgrading traffic signals to provide fully controlled, right-turns from all legs of the intersection
- modifications to traffic islands on Karadoc Avenue
- minor road surface and drainage works, and
- improved line marking.
Benefits
Previously vehicles on Karadoc Avenue had to wait for a gap in oncoming traffic to turn right onto the Calder Highway. Motorists also had to be cautious of pedestrians crossing the Calder Highway at the intersection when turning right.
Upgrades to the traffic signals will provide a dedicated, right-turn signal for these vehicles, reducing conflict with other vehicles and pedestrians.
Traffic disruption
Works are expected to start late October and take approximately six weeks to complete, weather permitting.
During construction lane closures and reduced speeds will be in place as required. Please plan ahead and allow extra time.
Access to nearby residences and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
Observe changed traffic conditions and follow the direction of on-site traffic controllers.
