Birregurra-Forrest Road safety improvements, Barwon Downs

We’re building two raised safety platforms on a section of Birregurra-Forrest Road at Barwon Downs to make your journey safer.

Project status:

Underway

The safety improvements project on Birregurra-Forrest Road at Barwon Downs will reduce the speed of vehicles at approaches to a bend where speed compliance has previously been an issue, improving safety for all road users.

Update – July 2026

Works on the safety upgrade are expected to begin in August and take approximately two months to complete.

What we’re doing

The safety improvements project includes:

  • construction of two raised safety platforms (elevated sections of the road) near the CFA building, south of the bend, and near the Barwon Downs Town Park, east of Callahans Lane and north of the bend
  • new kerbing at the locations of the platforms to clearly mark out the curve of the road
  • drainage upgrades

What to expect

If you’re traveling through the area during construction, please be aware of change traffic conditions and allow extra travel time. Dates and timeframes are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.

We'll make every effort to minimise disruption to traffic during these works. Disruptions may include:

  • single lane closures, with traffic management in place
  • reduced speed limits to ensure the safety of crews and all road users
  • temporary traffic lights and electronic message signs
  • weekend work and nightworks
  • delays to traffic
  • traffic management crews to help you move through the area

Crews will be on site Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm, with the possibility of some weekend and night works. Disruptions information will be updated on this website when the delivery program is confirmed.
