Overview

The Bandiana Link Bridge is located on the Hume Freeway, Wodonga, over Bandiana Link Road. The bridge is an important connector between Wodonga and Albury and forms part of the Wodonga bypass which leads to the Victoria and NSW border.

These works are jointly funded with the Australian Government providing $5 million through the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program and the Victorian Government providing $1.5 million towards this $6.5 million project.

What we’re doing

The Bandiana Link Bridge needs strengthening to ensure it remains safe and reliable for all road users.

The bridge strengthening works involve the installation of an additional bridge pile on the north-western corner of the structure and construction of an earth wall in front of the existing retaining wall.

Traffic impacts

The bulk of the works will take place underneath the bridge adjacent to Bandiana Link Road.

Works on the Bandiana Link Bridge will involve the movement of heavy machinery in and around the bridge abutment in the road reserve area.

Both the bridge and Bandiana Link Road will remain operational during the works, with a lane closure and reduced speeds on Bandiana Link Road.

The works involve the construction of an additional bridge pile to provide extra support and strength for the structure.

Once poured, the concrete pile will need some time to settle. During this time a lane closure of the Hume Freeway will be required for three to five days.
The timing of the lane closure will be confirmed later in the works schedule and communicated via onsite electronic message boards.

There will also be speed limit reductions on the Bandiana Bridge (Hume Freeway) at times during works.

Please plan ahead and allow extra time during this disruption.

When to expect us

Works will start in late May 2025 and take approximately 16 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Works will take place only during the day, with no disruption overnight.
