Bacchus Marsh Intersection Upgrades
Big Build Roads is upgrading two major intersections in Bacchus Marsh on behalf of Transport Victoria.
Underway
Two intersections in Bacchus Marsh will be upgraded at:
- Station Street/Griffith Street, and
- Grant Street/Parwan Road.
The intersection upgrades will improve road safety, enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and provide better crossing opportunities for pedestrians and cyclists. It will also improve access to the Bacchus Marsh Station precinct.
This upgrade will ensure that the intersections are prepared to handle increased traffic volumes for the next decade.
Station Street/Griffith Street Intersection and Grant Street/Parwan Road
The upgrade will:
- replace the existing single lane roundabout with a dual lane roundabout
- add pedestrian crossings at Griffith Street and Parwan Road
- introduce a right turn ban for vehicles travelling from South Maddingley Road onto Parwan Road.

Main Street and Grant Street/Gisborne Road Intersection
The upgrade will:
- replace the existing roundabout with traffic lights
- remove the existing pedestrian crossing on Gisborne Road, north of the Grant Street/Gisborne Road and Main Street intersection.

To deliver the intersection upgrade, we need to remove some car spaces on Grant and Main streets. Removing parking will create the space needed to improve the intersection and add new turning lanes. The amount of car parks to be removed is still being confirmed.
Start of Works – from Late April 2026
Site compound set up
We’re getting ready to upgrade two major intersections in Bacchus Marsh.
ACE Contractors is the construction partner delivering this project with Big Build Roads, on behalf of Transport Victoria.
To support the construction, we’ll set up a temporary site compound and offices.
From late April to May 2026, we’ll set up work areas at the following locations:
- Osborne Street, Maddingley for a site compound including offices
- the corner of Griffith Street and Parwan Road, Maddingley for a temporary laydown area to store materials and equipment
- the road reserve on Grant Street near Maddingley Park for a temporary laydown area to store materials
- the road reserve on Gisborne Road, Bacchus Marsh near APCO for two site office caravans.
These work areas are expected to be fully operational by May 2026 and will support early works ahead of major construction.
The sites will remain in place until the project is complete in early 2027.
Once the project is complete, we’ll remove all facilities and return all areas to their original condition.
The site setup includes:
- clearing and levelling the ground for site offices, worker parking and laydown areas
- fencing the areas
- installing driveways for vehicle access
- connecting utility services, including power and water
- laying crushed rock for a stable base
- delivering and assembling portable buildings for the site office and facilities
- further site investigations in the project area.
Start of works
Main Street and Grant Street intersection
From Sunday 3 May 2026, you’ll notice crews working at the roundabout intersection of Grant Street and Main Street to prepare the area for major works.
These works include:
- site investigations
- installation of safety barriers
- construction of temporary pavement
- relocating utilities services including gas and water before construction
- noise, vibration and dust monitoring before main works starts
- removal of some trees along Grant Street and Main Street
- removing the existing islands.
Station Street and Griffiths Street Intersection
From Sunday 17 May 2026, you’ll notice crews working at the roundabout intersection of Station Street and Griffith Street to prepare the area for major works.
This includes:
- site investigations of utility services
- removal of some trees near the roundabout
- removing the existing roundabout and islands
- installing temporary pavements
- installing stormwater and signal conduit crossings
- setting up road barriers for road widening works
- temporarily widening Parwan Road at the roundabout to create a safe working space
Traffic Impacts
Where possible, traffic will be maintained in both directions under changed conditions, including lane closures, footpath closures and reduced speeds, at the following locations:
- Main Street and Grant Street roundabout
- Griffiths Street and Station Street roundabout
However, we’ll need to close sections of the roundabouts at times overnight in May and June to safely complete the works. Detours will be in place, please check the detour maps below.
Some of these works will require temporary changed parking conditions along sections of Grant Street and Main Street at night.
These works require specific weather conditions and may need to be rescheduled at short notice. Please visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au/disruptions or refer to roadside messaging for specific dates, times and detours.
Main Street (West) Closure – Overnight, at times, from May 2026
Main Street (East) Closure – Overnight, at times, from May 2026
Grant Street closure in Maddingley– Overnight, at times in May and June 2026
Station Street closure– Overnight, at times in May and June 2026
Griffith Street closure– Overnight, at times in May and June 2026
Parwan Road closure (including South Maddingley Road) – Overnight, at times in May and June 2026
How this may impact you
Working hours
Most of these activities will take place at night from Sunday to Thursday between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption to the community, road users and businesses.
Day works will occur between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays between 7am and 1pm.
These works are expected to generate some noise, dust and vibrations. We’ll monitor these impacts to ensure they’re kept to a minimum.
We'll work closely with impacted businesses and residents to provide additional information on works, timing and how we propose to manage the expected disruptions.
Access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times.
