Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road pedestrian crossing
Underway
The new crossing, located south of Masons Lane, will improve safety for pedestrians and bike riders and boost connectivity to the active transport network between Darley and Maddingley.
This project is delivered by the Australian and Victorian Governments’ Road Safety Program and is delivered in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
Project Update - December 2024
This project will be delivered in two stages.
The first stage of works will start from Monday 13 January 2025 and is expected to take approximately two weeks.
The project will pause to allow for a separate road rehabilitation project to be completed on Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road, between Bennet Steet and Clifton Drive. This work is planned to tie-in with roadwork activities required for the pedestrian crossing.
The second stage of works will be scheduled in 2025.
What we’re doing
Works will include:
Stage 1 – early works
- Earthworks
- Drainage works
- Services installation
- Pavement works
Stage 2 – major works
- Installation of pedestrian-operated signals
- Footpath works
- Sign installation
- Line marking
Disruptions
While the works are underway, there will be disruptions on Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road and surrounding roads.
Crews will be on site from Monday to Friday and some weekends, with the possibility of nightworks.
Access to residential properties and businesses will be maintained for most of the works. Our contractor will contact impacted residents or businesses about temporary access changes, should they be required.
Speed limits will be reduced to 40km/h and lane closures will be in place during these works. Traffic controllers will be on site to help road users travel safely through the area, one lane at a time.
Temporary pedestrian detours may be required at times when crews are required to work near footpaths.
Crews will aim to minimise delays and access impacts as much as possible.
Please look out for signs and allow for extra time when travelling through the area.
Please note: dates and timeframes of these works are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.
Benefits
- Improve safety for bike riders and pedestrians
- Connect existing facilities for pedestrians and bike rider
- Encourage more people to ride by boosting the active transport network
Background
Bacchus Marsh is one of the fastest growing regional urban areas in Victoria. Rapid growth has brought an increase of residential housing and industry, which in turn has seen an increase in the need for safe cycling and pedestrian networks.
This project is part of Moorabool Shire Council’s Strategic Cycling Corridor Network and will be a critical safety link to the shared user path between Darley and Maddingley, connecting residents and visitors to Bacchus Marsh and surrounding attractions and services.
