Pyrenees Highway, High Street and Inkerman Street intersection improvements, Maryborough

We’ve made the intersection of the Pyrenees Highway, High Street and Inkerman Street in Maryborough safer for all road users.

Project status:

Complete

Works to improve safety by installing raised pedestrian crossings, also known as wombat crossings, on each approach to the existing roundabout are now complete.

This project was delivered as part of the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

We thank the community for your patience as we completed these important safety upgrades.

Between January 2017 and December 2025 there were 8 crashes at this intersection.

This project has improved safety by:

  • installing raised safety platforms and pedestrian crossings (wombat crossings), on each leg of the existing roundabout.
  • completing kerb and drainage works, and
  • improving signage and linemarking.

Wombat crossings help slow vehicles, make pedestrians easier to see, and give people a safer place to cross. 

The design of the wombat crossings has been developed with consideration of heavy vehicles using this route and have been selected to ensure heavy vehicles can safely drive over the raised platforms.
