Murray River Road, Burrowye Creek

We’re working to repair the embankment of Burrowye Creek Bridge on Murray River Road, Burrowye.

An inspection of Burrowye Creek Bridge on Murray River Road found the bridge embankment had been damaged by recent heavy rain and flooding and repairs are required.

A temporary Bailey Bridge was installed over Burrowye Creek, enabling single-lane traffic whilst the repairs were undertaken.

Bridge repairs

Repairs to the bridge embankment have now been completed.

The works included:

  • constructing access tracks from the road to the bridge abutments
  • constructing a sandbag abutment and embankment retaining wall
  • treatment of the rocks to protect the embankments from further erosion, and
  • filling the cavities behind the wall with flowable fill material.

Road closure

Murray River Road in Burrowye will be closed from 19 October 2026 for approximately 1 - 2 weeks, so the Bailey Bridge can be removed and final works completed. These works include removal of access tracks, replacement of topsoil and fences and minor patching where the Bailey Bridge was anchored.
A detour is in place via Granya Road, Murray Valley Highway and Shelley-Walwa Road.
The road will reopen when the Bailey Bridge has been removed and final pavement works have been completed. We will provide further updates as works progress.
