Project update - 2026

We have completed safety upgrades at the intersection of Goulburn Valley Highway (Wyndham Street) and Hayes Street in Shepparton.

The safety upgrades include:

  • The installation of pedestrian signals across the Goulburn Valley Highway and Hayes Street to provide a safe crossing point for vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Signalised u-turn for vehicles on the Goulburn Valley Highway.
  • Fully controlled turning movements for vehicles turning in and out of Hayes Street, improving safety for drivers.
  • Raised safety platforms on the approaches to the lights on the Goulburn Valley Highway to encourage vehicles to slow down and increase visibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Replacement of the water main on Hayes Street.
  • Improved drainage, signs and linemarking.
  • New street lighting.

These upgrades will improve safety for all road users in this increasingly busy area close to the Victoria Park Lake precinct. The works form part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s planned Strategic Cycling Corridor from Shepparton Art Museum to Shepparton Railway Station. This project was funded by a joint investment from the Australian and Victorian Government under the Road Safety Program.

We are grateful to the community for your patience as we completed these vital safety upgrades.
